20 July 2019: Hinton Charterhouse and Wellow
This morning my wife and I travelled by train and bus from Bristol to Hinton Charterhouse, to meet my brother-in-law’s widow. She caught up with us as we were walking towards her bungalow; she had been out to the Post Office.
After relaxing at her home for a while we all walked along pathways and metalled tracks to Wellow. It was such a nice walk that I decided to record the route on our way back, but unfortunately she took us back along the roadway, which wasn’t nearly so pleasant.
We treated her to lunch at the Fox & Badger in Wellow, which is a very traditional pub. I can recommend both the food and the Cheddar Valley cider, which I have not come across before.
After lunch we walked back along the road to the bungalow at Hinton Charterhouse. Then she drove us around the local area, through Bradford-on-Avon and then to Pipehouse to look at a house her daughter (my late brother-in-law’s stepdaughter) and her husband are thinking of buying. It comes with many acres of land but there is a lot of work to be done on the house itself.
We then returned to the bungalow for tea before she drove us to Bath to catch the train back to Bristol.
