29 September 2024: Oops!
This afternoon my wife and I went to a church on the other side of the city for an event organised by a local charity we both support. We walked down to the cathedral and caught a bus from the stop there. When we got off the bus it was just a five-minute walk to the church.
Our timing was impeccable. We arrive five minutes before the event was due to begin.
The church was in darkness with the doors locked. No one was about and no one answered the bell.
My wife got out the charity’s newsletter in which the event was advertised. Yes, we were at the right church. Yes, it was the right time.
“It’s on the 28th,” my wife said. “That is today, isn’t it.”
“No,” I pointed out. “That was yesterday.”
We went to bus stop to catch the next bus back to the city centre.
My wife was most apologetic. Truth to tell, I found it funny. That is two hours of my life I won’t get back but it did give me some exercise I might not otherwise have taken. I was just thankful I hadn’t been the one to make the mistake!
