All Saints Day was actually on Friday but we celebrated it today, being the nearest Sunday. It was both our patronal festival and the annual service where the members of our Boys’ Brigade renewed their promises.

For her talk our Rector chose as her theme “Who is worthy to approach God?” One of the Boys’ Brigade lads immediately came up with answer: “Everyone”. The Rector pointed out that you don’t have to be a special person to approach God. You don’t have to be a priest. You don’t even have to be particularly good. Anyone can approach God through Jesus Christ.

In line with the theme of the day, the hymn following her talk was “Oh when the Saints”, accompanied not only by our church band but also by the children (and some adults) wielding shakers.

After that the Boys’ Brigade members renewed their promises, first the Officers and Helpers and then all of them. That was followed by the Boys’ Brigade hymn, “Will your anchor hold?”

We then had a time of prayer, notices, another hymn and the blessing and dismissal. Those who wished then went into the hall for coffee, tea and biscuits, although most of the Boys’ Brigade gave that a miss for some reason.
