25 December 2024: Christmas Day
This being Christmas Morning, our traditional and Sunday Special congregations joined together for a special communion service led by the Rector. So far as the children are concerned, the highlight of the service comes when they are invited to show everyone a present they got for Christmas. The Rector does a great job of recognising what the toys are, although she occasionally had to ask.
Many elements of the service, such as the Invitation to Confession and the Creed, were specifically designed for use at Christmas. The hymns were all well-known Christmas carols. Even I manged to join in lustily.
After the service everyone was invited into the church hall for tea or coffee and mince pies or biscuits. Like others, I interpreted “mince pies or biscuits” somewhat loosely and had both. It didn’t spoil my Christmas lunch.
