29 November 2024: Coffee morning
Today we held a coffee morning in our church hall in aid of church funds, organised by Sunday Special. As well as tea/coffee and cake there were various stalls run by other church members.
I got a cup of coffee and a piece of stollen and joined one of the tables. I commented on the fact that those of us on the table were exclusively male! I knew them all, although there were others at the coffee morning I didn’t recognise. It was good to see that the support extended beyond the church membership.
I bought two tickets for the tombola but didn’t pick one of the winning numbers. I also bought some raffle tickets but the raffle was drawn later.
Another stall was “Guess the name of this Christmas tree”. The prize was the tree itself, which was artificial and hopefully should last a good few years. They had a list of possible names. I paid for two guesses, one of them being my mother’s name. The chosen name was revealed at the end of the morning.
My other purchases were a selection of photographs being sold by a friend of ours, bearing photographs taken by her lat husband, and some marmalade from another friend of ours. It turned out that my wife had bought a jar of jam from her, so we hadn’t both gone for the same thing.
The only stall I didn’t patronise was the bric-a-bac stall on which my wife was helping. That was not due to any malice on my part. They weren’t selling anything I could use.
I left before the end, so missed the announcement of the name of the Christmas tree and the draw of the raffle. I didn’t win the tree but one of my raffle tickets won one of the last two prizes. My wife selected the perfume, for which she thanked me. In some ways that was a relief. I was afraid I might end up winning the pair of fluffy pink slippers!
